SPAM: What does it stand for, and what are its ingredients?

    • There are even people who say it means “Salt Preserves Any Meat” or “Spiced Ham.”

The truth is, even the company doesn’t really say what it officially stands for. This has made SPAM even more mysterious and interesting.

However, there is a story that in a naming contest, a Hormel executive’s brother, Ken Daigneau, came up with the name SPAM. It is said that he combined the words “spiced” and “ham” to create the name, and he won $100 for it. The founder of the company, Jay Hormel, said that he thought the name was “perfect.”
